Docs/Concepts/Payment matching

Payment matching

How a payment is connected to an order, in plain words.

Three keys

Every payment the watcher reports is compared with open orders using three keys:

KeyWhere it comes from
Memo codeThe note on the payment. Checksum-protected, unique per order.
Sender handleThe X account that paid. You signed in with X, so we know it before you pay.
AmountExact to the cent — kept unique per buyer and creator.

A payment is delivered only when the keys agree and nothing conflicts. A memo alone from an unknown account is never enough.

The rules

RuleWhenResult
R1Memo, sender and amount all match.Delivered.
R2Memo matches but someone else paid: a registered user, or anyone paying the exact amount due.Delivered as a gift.
R3No usable memo; the buyer paid the exact amount of their one open order with this creator.Delivered.
R4Like R3, but several open orders have that amount. The oldest order is delivered first.
R5Only the amount matches an order.Review — the creator decides.
R6Less than the order amount.Waits 2 hours for the rest, then refunded.
R7More than the order amount.Delivered, and the difference is refunded.

The rule that matched each payment is shown to the creator in Studio. Every decision is recorded in the order’s history.

Review instead of guessing

These always go to review and keep the piece locked:

  • A memo paid by someone else with an amount that isn’t exactly what’s due.
  • The right buyer and memo-less, but an amount that fits none of their orders.
  • Several open orders that could each be the one, and none fits exactly.
  • A second payment of the same amount without a memo (it might be personal).
  • Two of the creator’s watchers reporting the same payment differently.
  • A memo-like note that isn’t a valid code.

The creator or our team decides. Orders nobody decides within 12 hours are refunded.

Risk checks

Order amountCheck
Under $1,000None — delivered as soon as it matches.
$1,000 and aboveHeld 24 hours, then delivered automatically — immediately if a second watcher of the creator confirms the payment.

Blocked accounts are always reviewed.

Unrelated payments

Creators use their personal X Money accounts, so their watcher also sees payments that have nothing to do with xnft.money. A payment with no memo, from nobody with an order, of no matching amount is ignored — never refunded — and reduced to its ID and amount after a day. Anything that looks meant for us goes to review instead.
